She lived 117 years eating the same thing every day: Emma Morano’s astonishing secret

Her true strength: an indomitable spirit
But to reduce Emma to her diet would be to miss the point. What truly stands out in her life story is her extraordinary personality.

In 1938, at a time when women were expected to be silent and unobtrusive, Emma made a radical decision: she ended an unhappy marriage and lived alone, completely independently. “I didn’t want to be dominated by anyone,” she confided. She then worked in a factory, supported herself, and forged her own path without ever looking back.

This inner freedom, this ability to say no and to choose herself, is perhaps the true secret to her longevity.

Genetics, a significant advantage
Nature also gave her a considerable boost. Emma’s mother lived to 91, and several of her sisters also passed the age of 100. The Morano genes seemed destined for longevity!
